Jin Shou Tui Na
The Art of Diagnosis and Treatment through
Chinese Medical Bodywork
Course Description
This course offers an instruction in Jin Shou Tui Na, a classical system of Chinese medical bodywork that integrates a refined diagnostic awareness through hands-on treatment . Participants will learn to listen through touch, using palpation as both a diagnostic and therapeutic tool. Emphasis is placed on cultivating sensitivity, precision, and responsiveness, allowing treatment to arise fluidly from what is perceived in the body.
Focus and Intention
The intention of this course is to develop an embodied clinical perception — the ability to assess, interpret, and respond to patterns of tension, imbalance, and vitality through touch. We will explore how diagnosis and treatment emerge simultaneously through skilled manual techniques, informed by classical Chinese medical principles.
Outcomes
These classes are a hands-on learning journey centered on relationship, perception and an embodied dialogue. I hold the intention that we travel together toward greater familiarity, nuance, and depth. Our time together is self-paced, and the following outcomes are all accessible within the scope of this course:
• Develop sensitive, respectful, and effective palpation skills
• Assess tissue quality, structure, and movement as diagnostic information
• Recognize physiological dynamics and patterns through palpation (organ function, intra-organ patterns, channel palpation, excess, deficiency, stagnation, etc. as well as other imbalances through a listening touch)
• Apply fundamental Jin Shou Tui Na hand techniques with clarity and intention
• Integrate diagnostic findings directly into treatment decisions
• Formulate and apply bodywork strategies rooted in Chinese medical theory
• Understand the relationship between structure, movement, and internal dynamics
Prerequisites
None. Everyone is welcome, including those without prior experience in East Asian medicine. A sincere interest in learning through touch and presence is all that is required. I trust that each participant’s presence and engagement will be meaningful and beneficial to the collective learning experience.
Materials
Comfortable clothing suitable for hands-on practice is recommended.
Additional reference materials will be suggested during the course for those wishing to deepen their study.
